Ultiboost vs Ultivite: what every Swisse range name means

Seven words do the sorting on a Swisse label. We counted all 135 products in our catalogue: 65 are Ultiboost, 15 Ultivite, and 27 carry no range word at all.

Pick up two Swisse bottles and the first line is the same on both: Swisse. The second line is the one that differs. It is the fastest way to tell what kind of product you are holding, before you read a single ingredient.

None of these words is a claim about what a product does. They sort the range. Once you know the sorting, you can find things in it.

So we counted. Every product in our catalogue, on 18 September 2026, all 135 of them. The split turned out to be far more uneven than the shelf suggests.

What do the Swisse range names actually mean?

Six range words cover 108 of the 135 products. The other 27 carry none at all.

Each word groups products by what kind of thing they are, not by what they are for. That is why two Ultiboost bottles can have nothing in common except the shape of their names. One holds magnesium and the other holds cranberry, and the range word they share tells you only that each is built on a single ingredient.

Read the table as a map of the shelf rather than as a ranking. A range with two products in it is not a minor range. It is a narrow one, aimed at people in one situation, and it would be a worse range if it were padded.

Why is Ultiboost on so many bottles?

Ultiboost is the single-ingredient range, and it carries almost half the catalogue on its own. Each Ultiboost product centres on one named thing. The rest of the name tells you which: magnesium, vitamin C, fish oil, cranberry, ashwagandha.

That makes it the range to look in when you already know what you want. You are not choosing a formula here. You are choosing a nutrient, and then a pack size.

It also explains why the range is so large. One nutrient per product means one product per nutrient, and often two, because the same formula comes in more than one size.

Starting from the ingredient instead of the product? Our Ingredients A to Z lists every nutrient and plant in the range. It describes each one from a named public source, and links to the products that contain it.

How is Ultivite different from Ultiboost?

Ultivite is the multivitamin range. Where Ultiboost gives you one nutrient at a time, an Ultivite product is the multi-ingredient formula. The rest of the name says who the formula suits: men's, women's, 50+, 65+, teenage, vegan.

That second half matters more than it looks. Stand two Ultivite bottles side by side and they can share most of an ingredient list while differing in the amounts. The name is the only thing on the front that separates them, so the half of it people skim is the half that decides which one they are holding.

Fifteen products carry the Ultivite name. You can see all of them, with prices, on the multivitamins shelf.

What does Ultibiotic mean on a Swisse label?

Ultibiotic is the probiotic range. It is also the one range where the number on the front is not milligrams.

Probiotics come in billions of CFU, which is short for colony forming units. So a bigger number on an Ultibiotic box is not the same kind of bigger number as on an Ultiboost box. The two do not compare, and nothing on either label says so.

Five products carry the name. Before you buy one, read the storage line on the back. Some are shelf stable and some are not, and that varies by product rather than by range. It is the single most useful line on an Ultibiotic box, and it sits on the side nobody photographs. For example, two products with almost the same name can differ on exactly that line and on nothing else you would notice in a listing.

What is Ultinatal for?

Ultinatal covers pre-conception, pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is the smallest range we stock: two products out of 135.

It stays separate for a reason worth knowing rather than guessing. The amounts in a formula for that stage are set for that stage, not for general use. That is also why the two products sit outside the Ultivite range even though they are multivitamins. Swapping one for a general multivitamin is not the small substitution it looks like on a shelf.

Beauty and Little Swisse work the same way. Beauty covers hair, skin and nails in two quite different forms, things you swallow and things you apply, so check the format before you assume. Little Swisse is the children's range, in amounts set for children.

Shopping for this stage? The finder asks about it directly, and it will show you only the formula made for it rather than the nearest alternative.

Why do some Swisse products have no range word?

Twenty-seven products carry no range word at all. That is a fifth of the catalogue. When we analysed the names we found no pattern in that group at all, which was the most useful surprise in the whole count.

Two things put a product in that group. Some predate the range naming and nobody went back to rename them. Others are standalone items that never needed a range around them, so the name runs straight from Swisse to what the thing is.

A product with no range word is not an older or a lesser product. The naming simply never picked it up. The only practical effect falls on you: you cannot narrow it down by range word, so you have to search the name. In particular, do not read the absence of a range word as a sign that something has been discontinued or replaced.

What else on the front of the box is worth reading?

Three other things on the front carry most of the remaining information. All three catch people out on a reorder rather than on a first purchase.

On the frontWhat it tells you
The count"60 Tablets" and "120 Tablets" are usually the same formula in two sizes
The strength"High Strength" and a milligram figure are about amount per dose, not a different ingredient
The formTablets, capsules, soft capsules, gummies, powder, liquid, effervescent

Form is the one people get wrong, because the rest of the name looks identical. Across the catalogue the split runs 65 tablets, 41 capsules, 15 gummies, 7 powders, 5 liquids and 2 effervescent. Tablets and capsules together account for more than three quarters of everything we stock.

Does the same name always mean the same product?

Not always, and the label does not warn you. Fifteen families in our catalogue come in more than one pack size, covering 31 products. In three of those fifteen, the two packs are not one product in two quantities.

Swisse Ultivite Men's Multivitamin comes as 120 capsules and as 60 tablets. Swisse Ultivite Women's Multivitamin does the same. Swisse Ultiboost Calcium + Vitamin D comes as 150 capsules and as 90 tablets.

So the rule runs like this. Same name plus a different count usually means the same thing in a bigger box. Check the form word anyway before you reorder. Our product pages list the sizes we stock together, which is the quickest way to see whether the pack in front of you is the one you had last time.

What is the AUST L number on the back?

Swisse is an Australian brand. An AUST L number is the identifier Australia's medicines register gives a product listed on it, and it has to appear on the label (the TGA on AUST numbers). It identifies that exact product in the register.

The letters are worth knowing, because they do not all mean the same thing. Australia's regulator explains that products carrying AUST L do not go through an individual evaluation before sale. AUST R and the assessed AUST L(A) category do (TGA, listed complementary medicines).

We make no claims about what any product does, here or on a product page. We publish what is in it instead, and each ingredient line names the public source it came from.

Questions people ask

Is Ultiboost better than Ultivite?

Neither is better. Ultiboost is the single-nutrient range and Ultivite is the multivitamin range, so they answer different questions. One nutrient you have already decided on, or one formula covering a spread. Pick on how you prefer to take things.

What is the difference between Ultiboost and plain Swisse?

Nothing about how the product is made. Ultiboost is a range word applied to single-nutrient products. In our catalogue 27 products carry no range word at all, usually because they predate the naming or never needed a range around them.

Does Ultivite mean it is a multivitamin?

Yes. Ultivite is the multivitamin range, and the rest of the name says who the formula suits: men's, women's, 50+, 65+, teenage or vegan. Two Ultivite products can share most of an ingredient list and still differ in the amounts.

Is a 120-tablet box the same as a 60-tablet box?

Usually, but not always. Fifteen families in our catalogue come in more than one size, and in three of them the two packs differ in form as well as in count. Check the form word, not just the number, before you reorder.

What form does most of the Swisse range come in?

Tablets and capsules are more than three quarters of it: 65 tablets and 41 capsules across the catalogue, then 15 gummies, 7 powders, 5 liquids and 2 effervescent. The form word is the last one in the name, and it is the one people skip.
